Product Review

Three years before the start of WWII, Eugene Fodor published his first guidebook, 1936–-On the Continent–The Entertaining Travel Annual. Fodor's goal was to create a fun-to-read, annually updated guidebook about Europe that emphasized the people and culture of a country--a radical change from the traditional guidebook approach. Seventy-five years later, On the Continentgives readers a nostalgic glimpse and sentimental grand tour of pre-WWII Europe.Today, Fodor's is one of the world's largest and most trusted brands in travel, covering more than 600 destinations worldwide in guidebooks, on Fodors.com, in ebooks and iPhone apps.

This guide spans 26 different countries in Europe, in the year 1936. Written in an interesting manner, by a collaboration of writers, all chapters have one thing in common: they are informative AND entertaining. Information, anecdotes, quotes and more are blended together. Ye history buffs out there will love this for a totally different view of Europe, 1936 and for the sheer enoromous scope of the book. Authors researching this time frame will find this a highly useful guide. And for those of you who just want to relax an read, fear not, this book is for you, too. Kindle edition includes a linked table of contents.

I found this book fascinating. A "travel guide" to Europe just a few short years before WWII. The reader will catch quick glances at the political climate.

Quite a long book, and there are certainly sections that can be glossed over quickly, but I could not put it down.

Best of all? It's FREE for the Kindle!
