This review is from: Fodor's Washington, D.C. 2010: with Mount Vernon, Alexandria & Annapolis (Full-color Travel Guide) (Paperback) To assist in planning my trip to Washington D.C. in 2010, I purchased this guide shortly after it was released. When looking for a travel guide among the many brands, I chose Fodor's over the others based on what I could see in the "Look Inside" preview of the book. I was not disappointed when the book arrived. I like the format of the book, and its unbiased information. There are many maps throughout the book, showing the locations of restaurants, hotels, attractions, and other areas of interest. In the museum section of this edition, the National Air and Space Museum (The most popular museum in the world) is given 3 pages, with many pictures and useful information. Based on this guide I would recommend Fodor's Guides to anyone looking for a travel guide, and I plan to continue using them for future trips. 5 of 5 people found the following review helpful: By BE Babe (Silver City, NM) - See all my reviews This review is from: Fodor's Washington, D.C. 2010: with Mount Vernon, Alexandria & Annapolis (Full-color Travel Guide) (Paperback) At first, I did not like this travel guide because I thought it had way to much information for my purposes. The font is small and there are not as many pictures as I was hoping for. At the same time, I had also purchased DK's Eyewitness Travel Guide, which I liked much better for the brilliant photos and layout of the book. But as I went back and forth between the two, I started to like Fodor's more and more because it has recommendations on everything, like places to stay and eat, including pros/cons of all the hotels in the DC area. I actually found that it has been more useful for planning my trip than DK's Eyewitness Travel Guide. In the end, I decided to keep both books, as I feel that they each have strong and weak points that balance each other out. The only problem I've found with Fodor's is that the tearaway map included in the back of the book only goes as far north as Dupont Circle, which is kind of a bummer for us because we'll be in that area. But it's certainly...Read more 6 of 7 people found the following review helpful: By Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Fodor's Washington, D.C. 2010: with Mount Vernon, Alexandria & Annapolis (Full-color Travel Guide) (Paperback) Fodor's was a great resource during our trip to DC. The neighborhood profiles and "where to eat" were invaluable chapters for learning about the city and planning our limited time. The museums and monuments chapters provided highlights once we were in D.C.
We took this guide and The Unofficial Guide on our trip - I recommend both for planning, but Fodor's came in more handy once we were at the sights. |
