This was a decent guide to the area's attractions and restaurants, etc. It has plenty of good photos, lists, and maps, and I can definitely recommend it to someone who is planning to spend some vacation time there. However, this was not an exceptional book. The writing was pretty standard for this kind of thing, and the author did not seem to find many of the rare, hidden gems that the area surely has (I know of a couple). Another gripe: there was no publication date, so how am I supposed to know when it is time to replace the thing? Of course the publisher probably wants me to buy a new one whenever a new edition comes out.
I will hang onto this book, and hopefully will get to see some of the places in here that I was not previously aware of before I read it - and there are a few of those. For example, I had no idea that the painter Edward Hopper grew up in Nyack, and that his house is now a museum. Or that there is a museum in Somers dedicated to early American...Read more
