Switzerland (Insight Guides)

Just a brief review of this book's basic purpose: it's really not a travel book in the practical sense, but instead provides a really great concentration of pictures and capsule history/culture. I own it and it's great to look through without any plans for travel - I wouldn't use it to plan a trip directly, but rather to learn about where I'd want to go. The Insight Guide to Germany is also particularly fine, I might add. (I write this marginal review mainly as a sort of corrective to the previous review, which though perfectly reasonable as far as it goes doesn't do the book justice in its star-rating, in my view, since the impression that the book is trying to be the sort to help with hotel recommendations and the like was misguided.)

I bought this book before my recent first trip to Switzerland but I found I did not want to refer to it when I am over there. There is little practical information I can find to help me plan the trip in Geneva, Zurich and Lucern, and beyond. Although there is some good writing on history etc. It is not a book I would recommend for people going on tourist trip.
