Knopf MapGuide: Paris (Knopf Citymap Guides)

Comment: We purchased this before a trip to Paris in 2007 on the recommendation of a friend. It proved to be a great companion in Paris. There are a number of pluses: 1) it is compact--easily fits in a pants pocket, 2) the maps are detailed and covered every area we needed, 3) it has an included metro (subway) and RER map included, and 4) each map section has a brief list of the major sites as well as places to eat and shop. The Mapquide proved to be very easy to use on the go (much handier to use than a bigger map) and had more detail and information than the smaller, laminated maps I had used in the past.

One note of caution--this is not a travel guide. It is a map book that has information about various places in it, but does not have the detail one would find in other tour guides. When combined with a travel guide, the Knopf Mapguide to Paris proved invaluable to us. They worked so well for us that we now buy them for any new city we visit in Europe.

Comment: I'm just chiming in that this is a great map book. It fits easily in your pocket. It's got a great graphic on the front and it is filled with easy to use maps and lots of great info. Concise and thorough, super useful don't leave home without it.

Comment: The Knopf map guides are so incredibly helpful and easy to use. Having it to look at before my trip let me get to know the city and figure out my way around and decide what I wanted to see before I even got there so I never felt lost and always knew where I was going. I would never travel to a foreign city without one, they're definitely a must have, and they're inexpensive too!

Comment: Used this on a family trip to Paris last year. I have been to Paris several times and was replacing an older laminated map. I liked that it easily fits in pocket or purse and does not fold out into a huge map that screams "tourist". The book opens with a 2-page spread of the city and its arrondissements and ends with a Metro map. In between are detailed maps for 8 districts you are most likely to visit. There are brief listings for restaurants, tearooms and shops for each district along with some hotels at the end. It's the sort of thing you carry around daily for reference having read your big tour book at home or at night in your hotel. I'll be looking for this series for my next trip

Comment: I travel abroad a lot. This is the best style of map guide I have found.
It's small enough to carry around, but you don't have to open up a full map and figure out how to refold it again while standing in the street.
The only thing it lacks is street listings.
