This opening fold-out contains a general map of Vienna to help you visualize the 6 large districts discussed in this guide, and 4 pages of valuable information, handy tips and useful addresses.
For each district there is a double-page of addresses (restaurants — listed in ascending order of price — cafés, bars, tearooms, baths, music venues and stores) followed by a fold-out map for the relevant area with the essential places to see (indicated on the map by a star *). These places are by no means all that Vienna has to offer but to us they are unmissable. The grid-referencing system (A B2) makes it easy for you to pinpoint addresses quickly on the map.
Transportation and hotels in Vienna The last fold-out consists of a transportation map and 4 pages of practical information that include a selection of hotels.
A thematic index lists all the sites and addresses featured in this guide.

The good: The restaurant selections by neighborhood are very helpful. While the bigger guidebooks provide more options and a more in depth description, their "neighboorhood" designations could end up being miles wide, while the Knopf guides neighborhoods are much smaller. So, if you find a restaurant in your current "map" its only a few minutes walk, tops.
The bad: I found the Vienna guide a lot harder to use than some of the other Knopf map guides. I do not know if this was due to the nature of Vienna's street layout or what, but I definitely found myself more turned around than usual. Also, it would be helpful if the guide gave you more realistic shopping suggestions. Sorry, but while in Vienna, I'm not looking to buy exotic plants.

This series of city gudes are wonderful for any traveler. They are handy and small enough to fit in a pocket. They provide useful information at a glance.

For someone who hates walking around in a new city carrying cumbersome folding maps, Knopf MapGuide is just the ticket. Map sections are easy to read. I wish though the designers could have found room for separate maps for metro, buses, and trams.
