Their guides are practical, but also chock full of aesthetic advice that you will find nowhere else. They take risks in their recommendations, which are wonderfully and unpredictably erudite. Their books offer many unexpected surprises that are sprinkled amidst useful advice. I have never found travel books as useful, as quirkily intelligent, and as fun as these. They are also superlative writers in clarity of style and quirky detail.
Wherever we go in Western Europe, we seek to see if they have written a book about it. We expect fascinating observation, unusual ideas for entertainment, and genuine intellectual depth.
