France is often distilled down to a pretty picture: the Eiffel Tower illuminated against the night sky, a field of lavender in Provence, or an extravagant château reflected in the still waters of the Loire. Let’s dig a little deeper.

We’ve brought you the best in budget accommodations so that you can save your hard-earned cash for that perfect splurge in a Parisian boutique or a nine-course dinner in Dijon. Get ready for a fierce pétanque match in a quiet Provencal village, and a warm, buttery croissant in a quiet bakery in Lyon. Let us show you the way to a hidden waterfall in the Pyrenees. Whether you’ve been searching for an Impressionist masterpiece, a glimpse at the snowy peaks of Mont Blanc, or the taste of an authentic bouillabaisse in the port of Marseilles, France is bound to leave you breathless. So pick up a copy of Let’s Go France and get ready for an adventure you’ll never forget.

Today I received my new Let's Go France (2011) book from Amazon and I am very disappointed. This 2011 edition does not deserve the "Let's Go" brand name (or that brand name is now known for a poor quality product).

Since my first trip to Europe in 1987, I had sworn by Let's Go guidebooks as the best guidebooks on the market. I used Let's Go guidebooks on my 10 trips in many different European countries from 1987-2010. I loved the key information at your finger tips. I loved all the maps. I loved the information on the history and culture and the wonderful, irreverent humor.

The new Let's Go guidebooks fail to live up to that long-established good reputation. I do not expect them to always keep the books exactly the same, and I understand that the internet and smartphones change information needs, but the new books are so much less comprehensive they do not deserve to be Let's Go brand books. Let's Go has set its standards very low and it is very...Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for quick reference, March 25, 2011

I used Let's Go France while studying abroad while traveling through France and it was a perfect reference tool to find out quick info about cities and travel between them. It was great when I was touring Lyon, Dijon and Rouen for the biggest sights and a few restaurants. I can't speak to the accommodations section as I often stayed with my program or with friends, but I definitely wouldn't have made it home without the extensive map coverage. Although other readers say it's not as comprehensive as past years, I think the amount of info included for a young student traveler like myself--one who's looking to explore cities on my own and to find a good time--was perfect.

I've used earlier editions of LET'S GO FRANCE and was always delighted with their suggestions of hotels and restaurants. This edition focuses on youth hostels excluding just about all inexpensive hotels. (Perhaps there are no more inexpensive ones left?)
My 1999 edition of LET'S GO was touted as a "budget travel series." This one is "The student travel guide." The former has over 700 pages; the latter only 501. Much has been left out. I am really disappointed.
