Michigan Off the Beaten Path, 10th: A Guide to Unique Places (Off the Beaten Path Series)

Excellent resource for planning our vacation in the UP. So nice to have input on sightseeing, places to stay and local attractions. Nicely organized for quick reference.

As you would expect from the title, this book will take you to places you would never find otherwise. The first place I was taken (Kitch-Iti-Kipi) made the book worth the price to me. After the second good recommendation, I knew I had a valuable friend in my hand.

This book is well organized and a pleasant read. Each chapter covers one of nine author-defined regions in Michigan (the UP is split into east and west). Within each chapter are subchapters for each of the region's counties, so it is easy to find adventures close to where you are or plan a road trip covering hundreds of miles. The writing itself is pleasant and somewhat playful, so it is an easy read after a hard day of exploring.

It sometimes seems everything worth visiting in Michigan is at least an hour away from where you are. As a tourist, it is great to have a guide that helps you maximize the limited hours most of us have there. Consider this book a "must have" for your next Michigan...Read more

While I have lived in Michigan for 10 years, I am still discovering many unique places to hike and photograph in this state. In trying to learn more, I came across the book, "Off the Beaten Path" by Jim Dufresne which contained a lot of very useful information on places to see and go in all parts of Michigan. I found this book on Amazon, which is where I have found many books that aren't easily found, again at a few reasonable price. Having visited some of the places mentioned in the book, I feel that it will be very useful in going exploring to other Michigan areas that I want to see and photograph.
