I think these Nat Geo books are the best. Not for hotels or restaurants, but outstanding for deiscovering sights that appeal to you with their fantastic photos of each place they review.

After checking this out of the library so many times I decided to order a copy.
Since this books is out of print I was able to find a nice clean used copy.
This books is wonderful as it gives a variety of road trip itineraries for the Virginia and Washington D.C. area. This is not a restuarant/hotel guide.
We have taken most of the suggested driving tours in Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland and Washington D.C.
This book is very useful as a good starting point for planning a trip, as a nice over view is provided for each driving itinerary.
The book provides information about the points of interest for the particular itinerary.
If you are not familiar with an area this book gives the traveler a wonderful start to planning a driving trip and a nice compact reference to carry along.
