Summary: Mixed sallad 2008-06-24
Comment: Few travel guides have been as difficult to use as Texas Off the Beaten Path. As an abroad visitor with over thirty 3-4 week road trips in the US and Europe this guide is in the bottom quarter of our planning aids.
Points of interest, events, restaurants and lodgings are all mixed up in narratives where real highlights are hard to discover. Some crucial individual pieces of information are either outdated or otherwise not valid; for instance traditional event dates etc. It is worthwhile to check them on the internet.

Summary: Very Informative 2007-11-18
Comment: Informative, thorough listings with maps and information on places to stay and eat listed after each section of the state that is reviewed. Favorite attractions, favorite annual events for each place and Texas Trivia listed throughout.
The publishers must have read the comments of the other reviewer on this page because my copy of this book is also the Seventh Edition, same ISBN number and everything, but the picture on the front cover is of a beautiful old climbing tree on the Brazos-Republic Trail - which is actually in Texas!

Summary: An interesting front picture 2006-11-16
Comment: I was browsing this book in a local book store and liked the content. What got my attention though was the picture on the front cover. I knew I had seen the place before but it took a couple of seconds before I realized it wasn't in Texas. The cover photo is Horseshoe Bend in Page, Arizona. Surely Texas has some great looking places that could have been on the cover.
