2.0 out of 5 stars Lukewarm writing and advertisements everywhere!, February 25, 1999

Perhaps I'm behind the times, but I was highly disappointed to receive this book and find small advertisements throughout. I don't trust guide books that rely so heavily on local ads and I found them unnecessary and a distraction. The writing and organization of the book seemed out of character for a true guide book as well. I will not be purchasing any of the "Insider's Guides" in the future. This book was a real disappointment.

When we went to the Outerbanks for the first time this May, we took along this book - purchased from Amazon, of course - and found it extremely handy, especially for the great restaurant listings. Would have like a little more description of lodgings - finding good ones was little more than guesswork, using cost as the best indicator of desirable amenities. We liked Insiders so much we just ordered another - also from Amazon - for the Tampa/St. Pete vacation we're taking this October.
