I am planning on visiting and exploring Madagascar this year and was interested in this book mainly as it describes the kind of trip I have always dreamt of doing: experiencing it not in the typical tourist way but off the beaten track to see the real Madagascar. Well, I read it in 2 sittings and it doesn't disappoint. Bearing in mind this story captures a Madagascar in the late 1930's, many of its points still seem relevant and so I found this book useful. It was funny and several moments had me laughing out loud as I can imagine the social mistakes the author made then, I will probably be making soon. The pictures are fantastic and very honest, capturing moments of life that could easily be on the cover of a magazine in our present time. A worthwhile buy. The Madagascar I Love

After listening to the book,I found that it had photos,so I downloaded it as well.I plan to travel to MadaGASCAR AND NEED TO LOCATE SOME OF THE WONDERFUL PLACES DESCRIBED.VERY INTERESTING WAS ALSO THE OLD TABOOS and the description of the origins of the inhabitants.
And something I had never heard of,a giant bird 7 times bigger than an ostrich. The colours of the mile -high capital at sunset time is remeniscent of Uluru
