2.0 out of 5 stars Tough Kindle read, January 22, 2009

I downloaded this Kindle book along with another to have with me on a trip to the region. After reviewing the sample, I was skeptical since it did not list a Table of Contents. Indeed, the Kindle version does not have a table, so imagine trying to find a particular section. I spent an hour before the trip locating each section, then bookmarking so it would be easy to access on the trip. No Table is a major shortcoming to any Kindle book, but particularly a reference type. Most do, but be careful. I will not do this again. I cannot comment on how well it is written having spent so much time just finding what I needed. Amazon should not allow Kindle books of this type without a Table of Contents. It just does not work.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not a great alternative, December 6, 2010

This is one of two guides to Southeast Asia available on the Kindle as of winter 2010. I picked this up hoping for a different take on traveling around SE Asia as alternative to the Lonely Planet guide. This book doesn't deliver. It has basically the same information as Lonely Planet but significantly less of it. That would be OK if the book was an opinionated guide, but it doesn't even cover the basic highlights of various places.

Nowhere does it provide an interesting perspective on a place that isn't discussed more thoroughly elsewhere. It does spend longer giving generic advice on how to pick a tour operator but that's basically it.

Oh, and the Kindle version does have a table of contents, but it's not recognized properly. The only way to get to it is to manually navigate to the beginning of the book. That's not a big issue, but worth mentioning.

5.0 out of 5 stars Terrific guide, February 25, 2009
This review is from: Vietnam, Laos & Cambodia - Another World (Adventure Guides) (Kindle Edition)
One of the best guides to this region I have encountered. I see that the book was criticized earlier for not having a table of contents. The Kindle version now does have a hyperlinked TOC so that problem has been fixed.
